After purchasing wheels for the transom of a PVC boat, the MOST IMPORTANT thing is not to rush to clamp the drill in the chuck… Because replacing one wheel model in the box with another is easier and cheaper, how to replace a leaky transom.

Folk wisdom says: “Measure 7 times ..”, and we recommend 7 points that you should pay attention to for successful installation of transom wheels on a boat:

    1. Set the boat to a comfortable height for working with the transom.
    2. Set one transom wheel in working position and the other in stowed position. When attaching the wheels to the transom of the boat, determine the height of the mounting plate so that in the stowed position the wheel is as far as possible behind the transom, and in the working position it goes under the boat, providing maximum clearance. The distance between the wheel and the bottom must be at least 20 mm.
    3. Having marked the height with a pencil in the previous paragraph, now we will note how close we can get to the cylinder, ensuring the maximum width of the wheels. The width of the wheels affects the stability when moving – the wider – the more stable. Having made a mark on the width, holding the mounting bar a couple of times, we move the racks of the transom wheels to the stowed position and back to make sure that nothing interferes with us.
    4. Having removed the mounting strips, we use them as a template for marking future holes, while it is necessary to maintain the alignment of the racks, both among themselves and relative to the axis of symmetry of the boat (someone does it by eye and evenly, someone did not help the laser level … ). Be sure to look where the drill will go inside: number plates, payol mount, etc. and make the necessary adjustments.
    5. Drilling. First, with a drill with a diameter of 4 mm, before reaching the drill exit a couple of mm, we clean the drill from adhering sawdust and drill to the end without forgetting about the substrate. Then, with a drill 1 mm larger in diameter than our fasteners, we drill the transom to the middle on each side. As a result of such stepped drilling, we will get even holes without chips, provided that the drills had the correct sharpening angle under the tree, and the drill was strictly perpendicular to the surface of the transom. It is advisable to do the installation slowly and treat the walls of the holes with a primer.
    6. If desired, we cut the gaskets, and then fill the seats with silicone and install the wheels. To reduce the risk of damaging the PVC fabric of the boat during further operation and to avoid injury to the crew, TECHNOPARUS recommends using flush-mounted nuts – Erickson or furniture nuts (which are supplied with all transom wheels of our production).
    7. After the silicone has dried, we lower the boat to the ground and carry out tests by loading the vessel with junior crew members.
